Richard began his career as a playwright in Chicago before making the move to Los Angeles to work in development on the NBC series HANNIBAL and the Netflix feature WHAT HAPPENED TO MONDAY. In 2020, he earned his Master's in TV Fiction Writing while developing the crime drama ANNIKA for UKTV with Scotland's Black Camel Pictures.

In 2023, Richard's TV thriller HIDDEN MURDER ISLAND was produced by Sunshine Pictures and sold to Channel 5 in the UK, Lifetime in the US, and TF1 in France. The same year, his rom com, THE LOVE HUNT, from Stargazer Films, premiered on Peacock in the US. Richard is currently working on a horror feature for a major US streamer.

Richard continues to live and work in Scotland, where he also lectures on TV writing and volunteers with a local dog rescue.
